Technical Conventions:

-Band shots, whole band and performance clips

-Shadow, msie-en-scene (clothes reflect genre of video) 

 reflects atmosphere, equal division of shots upon band 

 members 

-Bright lighting (they are in the spotlight, all about them)

-High/low angle, special lighting effects (high=audience       

 superior and artist inferior visa versa with low)

-Close ups (highlights they are the most important people in    

 the video and star image)

-Animation 

-Fast-pace of editing

-Editing to reflect pace of music 

-No real sound effects

-Dubbed sound

How far do you agree that the two videos you studied are conventional for the genre? (POP)

From viewing Little Mix’s music video ‘Black Magic’, it is evident to see many pop conventions. An example of a pop convention seen in the video is the types of costumes the artists are wearing. When the band change from 'geek' to 'nice' clothes the clothes are bright connoting with happiness and superiority. The pace of the song is upbeat showing that the song is pop because that is what a usual pop song would be like. The video is fast cut which also shows that the song is a 'pop' song. The narrative of the video is a linear narrative and  for the audience  makes them feel happy as they could relate to the narrative of the story as its very relatable to society nowadays. The girls are going to lessons in the school and having sleepovers showing the stereotypical lives of teenage girls.

Additionally, within The Vamps’ music video ‘Somebody To You’ bright lighting/bright colours/ the mise-en-scene reflects the atmosphere, which is conventional to Pop music. In the video the band shows significant happy facial expressions having an effect on the audience to make them feel happy and to enjoy the song more. The lighting throughout the video is bright making the band have the 'star image' making the video have more significants as its all about them which is usual in a pop music video. The fast pace editing of the video engages the audience throughout the video.
